About me

Professor Amarjit Anand is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon with specialist expertise in the latest and most advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic spinal surgical techniques. His clinical practice focuses on the management of lumbar disc prolapse, degenerative spinal conditions, spinal stenosis, spinal fractures and sacroiliac joint (SIJ) pathology. He is also recognised for his work in basivertebral nerve (BVN) ablation and modern motion-preserving approaches that minimise tissue disruption and promote faster recovery.

He is based at Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust and the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), one of the largest and most respected orthopaedic centres in Europe.

Professor Anand graduated from The Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2005 and completed early postgraduate training on the Oxford and Cambridge rotations, followed by specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic training on the London North West Thames Rotation.

During his training, he served as an Anatomy Demonstrator and Lecturer at Oxford University. He was elected to national leadership roles within the British Orthopaedic Trainee Association (BOTA), the Specialist Training Committee (STC) and the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) Executive Committee. He has delivered more than 50 international presentations, published extensively, and was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine President's Gold Medal Podium Prize in 2012. He continues to contribute academically as a reviewer for the Bone & Joint Journal, an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London and an examiner for FRCS(Tr&Orth) revision programmes.

Professor Anand completed advanced spinal training at major centres including St Mary's Hospital Major Trauma Centre, Charing Cross Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore. After receiving his CCT in 2015, he undertook two Post-CCT Spinal Fellowships: one at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading and a combined Orthopaedic & Neurosurgical Complex Spinal Fellowship at the Queens Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham.

He has further developed specialist skills through visiting fellowships at leading Centres of Excellence in France, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United States, strengthening his expertise in minimally invasive spinal surgery, endoscopic lumbar decompression (TELD & UBE), MIS sacroiliac joint fusion, MIS lumbar fusion, anterior & posterior cervical spine MIS techniques, radiofrequency denervation (rhizolysis) and basivertebral nerve ablation (BVN).

Professor Anand is committed to delivering precise, contemporary and patient-centred spinal care with an emphasis on accelerated recovery, preservation of spinal function and long-term outcomes.
