About me

Mr. Chester is an NHS-accredited plastic surgeon and a full member of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons. He is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery (Number 4196752). He has a specialist interest in Hand Surgery.

He qualified as a doctor from the University of Birmingham with degrees in Medicine and Surgery in 1995. He was awarded Honours in Pharmacology. He first started working in plastic surgery in 1997 and became a consultant plastic surgeon at the internationally renowned Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (formerly Selly Oak Hospital) in 2007. He has received training in all aspects of plastic, hand and cosmetic surgery in the West Midlands.

During his training, Mr Chester completed a specialist hand surgery fellowship at the prestigious Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby.

He has completed a year of full-time research within the field of plastic surgery and was awarded the degree of Master of Philosophy by the University of Birmingham. He was awarded the coveted McGregor Medal for his outstanding performance in the national plastic surgery examination (FRCSPlast).

In addition to his plastic surgery practice at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Mr Chester also provides the plastic surgery service for Worcestershire (Kidderminster Hospital and Worcestershire Royal Hospital).

He has been working independently as a plastic and hand surgeon in private practice since 2008.

He prides himself on his communication skills and involves patients fully in decision-making. He strives to improve patient care and his number one priority is patient safety. Mr Chester seeks feedback from his patient and has more than 100 5-star reviews on

Mr Chester as numerous publications in the field of plastic and hand surgery. He has lectured on numerous courses and at national meetings, particularly his work on upper limb reconstruction after blast injury. He is involved in teaching medical students and doctors who are to become the plastic surgeons of the future. Mr Chester also is responsible for training overseas plastic surgeons who come to the QE hospital on fellowship.

He has been Clinical Lead for Hand Surgery (Head of Department) for the last 10 years.

Outside of work, his interests include spending time with his family, playing football (which he admits he is too old for!) and occasionally cycling. He has a passion for music and enjoys playing the keyboards.
