About me

Dr Basu trained at Walton Centre of Neuroscience, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow. Thereafter she acquired further training in intra operative monitoring at Edinburgh and Nottingham University Hospital, paediatric neurophysiology training at Yorkhill Hospital, Glasgow and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and finally overall training at Uppsala University, Sweden.
In 2007 she was appointed Consultant Neurophysiologist and has acted as the Clinical Lead for Neurophysiology services since then.
Dr. Basu is a neurophysiologist who deals with all aspects of the peripheral nervous system. As a neurophysiology Consultant, Dr Basu’s work is largely diagnostic. She sees patients and performs and interprets investigations that record activity from the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. These include nerve conduction studies, electromyography (EMG), evoked potentials (EP) and electroencephalography (EEG). These investigations are used to aid diagnosis in various conditions affecting these parts of the nervous system.
Dr. Basu has deliverd several invited lectures to the learned societies. She teaches consultants, registrars, junior doctors, medical students, nurses and allied health professionals as well as being involved in physiologist training within the department. As she says, this really keeps her up to date and very focused on clinical practice. Dr. Basu holds the opinion that patients need to be kept at the centre of the health care universe and not moved to the side.
