About me
As a specialist adult hip surgeon my practice involves the assessment and management of all aspects of hip surgery, with a high volume practice in primary and revision hip replacement.
In 2016 I performed over 250 primary hip and revision hip replacements. My National Joint Registry feedback confirms a one-year revision rate of 0.45% based on over 1100 primary hip replacements with 100% data compliance submission.
I qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1995. His Orthopaedic and Trauma training was on the All Wales Higher Training Program, and my specialist training has been an accumulation of fellowships in the UK together with clinical visits throughout Europe and North America.
I commenced as a Consultant Surgeon in Cardiff in 2005. He has MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering that has provided him the knowledge and understanding to become closely involved with hip implant development and evaluation.
Mr. Stephen Jones is the National Musculo-skeletal Research Lead for Wales and previously Lead Clinician for Research and Development in Trauma & Orthopaedics for Cardiff & Vale University Health Board.
Mr. Stephen Jones has a number of other leadership roles. He is the current Vice-President of the British Hip Society and has previously served 3 years on the executive in the elected position of Honorary Secretary. He is also a member of the senior management committee of the Arthritis Research UK Biomechanics & Bioengineering Centre in Cardiff University and is an Assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
As a further update to Mr Stephen Jones activities in 2016 he performed invited presentations in the UK at the British Hip Society and the prestigious London Hip Meeting. Internationally in 2016 Mr. Jones presented in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Turkey and performed surgical demonstrations throughout the UK and Europe at Bio-skills courses and hospital visitations.
To date in 2017 he has lectured in Belgium, Germany, Sweden, and Spain also delivered a second successive Instructional Course Lecture at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons in the San Diego in March.
Mr. Jones is a keen educator at all levels and has a regular teaching commitments on a number of University and Royal College of Surgeons courses. He is both an Internal and External Undergraduate medical school examiner.
