About me
Mr Andrew Smith is a highly experienced Consultant Pancreas, Biliary and General Surgeon with private clinics at Spire Leeds Hospital.
His areas of expertise include gallbladder surgery, management of gallstones, laparoscopic surgery, hernia surgery, the holistic care and surgery for pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis patients.
Mr Smith graduated from Imperial College, London and subsequently trained in Leicester, Nottingham and at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA. Alongside his private practice, Mr Smith is a Consultant Pancreatic and Biliary surgeon based at St James's University Hospital. .
Mr Smith has a special interest in daycare laparoscopic cholecystectomy and delivers excellent outcomes . He features in The Daily Mail's Good Doctors Guide for gallbladder surgery. He also performs both keyhole and open hernia surgery.
Mr Smith also undertakes complex pancreatic pancreatic surgery for patients with pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, duodenal cancer and chronic pancreatitis.
Mr Smith is an Associate Clinical Professor at Leeds University. He is the Chief Investigator for a �2.4 million NIHR trial examining who requires gallbladder surgery after gallstones have been removed from the bile duct.He is very much involved in research and his publications can be found on Pubmed. He has co-supervised several postgraduate fellows working towards PhDs and MDs.
Mr Smith has been a committee member of the Specialist Advisory Committee in General Surgery. He is a recent past President of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
Currently he is a Clinical Lead of the National Pancreatic Cancer Audit (NPaCA), an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and is President - Elect of the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
