About me

Stuart was educated in David Hughes School, Menai Bridge. He attended Medical school at Bristol University gaining his degree in Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine. After undertaking his pre-registration house officer jobs he studied for an MPhil at Cambridge University studying the effects of Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory medication on human articular cartilage.

Stuart did his basic surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics, Accident and Emergency and Neurosurgery. After gaining his Fellowship in Surgery he became a professional rugby player for 2 seasons whilst also working part-time in trauma and orthopaedics.

He then gained a place as a Specialist Registrar on the All Wales training scheme in Trauma and Orthopaedics. During this 6 year period he rotated around hospitals in Wales and was trained in most aspects of Trauma and Orthopaedics. He successfully passed his exit exam in Trauma and Orthopaedics and his final year of training was spent in Adelaide, South Austrailia. During this year he gained further specialist training in Lower Limb and Sports Surgery.

Stuart was appointed a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in July, 2005. He has a full-time NHS contract and specialises in sports injuries, hip replacement, all aspects of knee surgery and foot and ankle surgery. He has been clinical director and is currently Audit lead for his department.

He is an Honorary Clinical Teacher at Cardiff University in recognition of his contribution to under-graduate teaching. He is on the Faculty for various courses run at the Welsh Institute of Minimal Access Therapy at the University Hospital of Wales. Stuart has maintained an active interest in research and has given many presentations at regional, national and international meetings.

Stuart was brought up on Anglesey in North Wales but now lives in the Vale of Glamorgan with his wife, Jayne and three young children. He has represented Wales at all levels in rugby and represented Menai Bridge, Cardiff, Pontypridd, Cambridge University and Crawshays Rugby Clubs. Although no-longer playing he is maintaining close links with the game providing orthopaedic services to both the WRU and rugby clubs in South Wales. He enjoys gardening, keeping fit, skiing and surfing in his spare time.
