About me

Professor Andreas Baumbach is Professor of Interventional Cardiology at the Barts Heart Centre and Queen Mary University of London. He graduated from the University of Tübingen, Germany in 1989 and completed his specialist training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Internal Intensive Care Medicine in Tübingen before moving to the University of Bristol in 2000. He was appointed as Chair for Device Innovation at Queen Mary University of London in 2017. His private practice is based at the Cleveland Clinic London since 2021. Professor Baumbach has a broad experience in all aspects of Cardiology and understands that making the correct diagnosis starts with listening to the patient. He performs coronary and valve interventions and is interested in finding the best treatment strategies for individual patients. He has an interest in device innovation and regulatory pathways and is involved in cutting-edge clinical trials. His research covers chest pain diagnosis, heart attack treatment, stent implantation and heart valve implantation. He has published more than 300 research papers and is a regular speaker at scientific meetings. Professor Baumbach has a strong commitment to training and education. He is directly involved in the organisation of the largest course in interventional cardiology (EuroPCR) and acts as a Course Director of PCR London Valves and ACIT-Asia PCR, which serves the Asia-Pacific community. He has contributed to international guidelines and policies and has served in learned Societies. He was President of the European Association of Percutaneous Interventions (EAPCI) in 2018-20 and serves on the current Guidelines Committee of the European Society of Cardiology.
