About me
Mr Neruban Kumaran is a highly trained Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in Vitreoretinal Surgery, Medical Retina and Cataract. His NHS practice is at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals, London where he is also lead for the Ophthalmic Emergency Service, having started in 2024. He completed his Ophthalmic surgery training in the prestigious London deanery and further subspecialty training in Vitreoretinal Surgery at St Thomas' Hospital, London. He subsequently worked for 2 years as a Locum Consultant at St Thomas's Hospital and Milton Keynes University Hospital.
In 2023 he led Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust's first ever retinal gene therapy programme treating children with a rare form of blindness, from around the world. This followed on from his PhD in this field having worked on multiple retinal gene therapy trials at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Mr Kumaran is passionate about medical education and surgical training. He holds a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in recognition of his excellence in teaching and mentoring junior doctors in cataract and vitreoretinal surgery.
He is internationally known for his patient-focused approach and commitment to delivering the highest standards of Ophthalmic care.
