Current NHS consultant posts held

Karl Gaffney has been a Consultant Rheumatologist at The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 1996. He is also Rheumatology Research Director and an Honorary Reader at Norwich Medical School. He oversees a large clinical trials and research programme.

Research interests

Dr Gaffney has considerable experience in clinical research, having published over 100 original papers and abstracts. Specific interests include Ankylosing Spondylitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoporosis. Dr Gaffney leads a research team in Ankylosing Spondylitis and is a regular invited speaker at National and International meetings. Personal interests

In his free time Dr Gaffney is interested in sport (including tennis, cycling and skiing) and keeping fit. In July 2016 he cycled to Paris and raised over £5000 for the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society. He is married, has 3 daughters and 2 labradors.
