About me
Mr Mohammed Bahgat is a Consultant ENT Surgeon based at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough. He does a weekly clinic at University Hospital of North Tees and Friarage hospitals. His private practice involves weekly clinics in Nuffield Tees hospital and Woodlands hospital in Darlington.
Mr Bahgat has a super-specialist experience on advanced sinus surgery and nasal plastic surgery. He undertook his ENT registrar training in the North East, rotating through prominent centres including:
Royal Victoria Infirmary
Freeman Hospital
Sunderland Royal Hospital
James Cook University Hospital
To broaden his expertise, Mr Bahgat pursued international training and visists at two of the world's leading skull base centres: The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in the USA and Varese in Italy. These experiences allowed him to learn directly from globally renowned endoscopic sinus and skull base surgeons.
Mr Bahgat regularly performs functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) with a particular focus on
the management of revision and advanced cases, where previous surgery did not achieve the required results. This includes:
 Frontal sinus pathology
Benign and malignant tumours of the nasal cavities
 Fungal rhinosinusitis
Endoscopic repair of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks
He works regularly with colleagues in neurosurgery on pituitary and skull base surgeries and is a regular member of both pituitary and skull base multi-disciplinary meetings.
Mr Bahgat has been invited as a faculty member in the national advanced sinus surgery cadaveric
course, and the annual international facial plastic surgery course.
Mr Bahgat works with chest physicians to optimise nasal symptoms in patients with uncontrolled asthma or COPD. He has worked extensively with GP's lecturing in local educational meetings. He has delivered multiple presentations on the diagnosis and management of different ENT conditions, including allergic rhinitis (hayfever) with the use of allergy testing for better control of the condition.
He is committed to offering patient-centred consultations, providing all the information needed to help patients make informed choices in a friendly and honest way.
Mr Bahgat has a keen interest in research. He dedicated over a year to a full-time research position in Wales before commencing his registrar training. His research focused on investigating quality of life and swallowing outcomes following various treatment modalities for head and neck cancers, including surgery and/or chemoradiotherapy. The findings were presented at multiple international conferences. He has over 20 research papers published in international journals in the field of ENT.
