About me

Mr Alanie is a dual fellowship trained Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. His practice focuses exclusively on the knee, where he manages the full spectrum of knee problems, and his goal is to return the damaged knee back to health so patients can go back to doing what they enjoy most. He is known for his holistic approach, and he takes a real interest in what matters most to his patients, tailoring a personalised treatment plan to suit their needs. He has a tertiary level practice in the NHS, frequently receiving referrals from across the region for challenging knee conditions. This includes looking after sports injuries with damaged knee ligaments such as the ACL, the meniscus or knee cartilage, knee cap dislocation problems and knee cap arthritis, or patients who have an articular cartilage injury. When treating younger active patients with knee arthritis, he regularly offers patients re-alignment (osteotomy) surgery to correct the shape of the leg, which helps to improve pain and function, and postpone the need for knee replacement surgery. In patients who have established arthritis, he routinely offers both partial and total knee replacement surgery, including robotically-assisted knee replacements.

Mr. Alanie graduated with Honours from the University of Glasgow School of Medicine in 2011. He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training in Glasgow and Newcastle, and during that time, he was awarded a Masters in Surgical Sciences with Distinction for his research thesis from the University of Edinburgh. After gaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2021 and completing his higher surgical training, he undertook two highly regarded fellowships in Liverpool and Birmingham. During that time, he was also competitively awarded the British Orthopaedic Association Chatterjee travelling fellowship, where he was able to visit centres of excellence in Europe to gain exposure to different techniques that are available for managing knee conditions. These combined fellowships gave him the skills to manage the full breadth of knee conditions that can present to him.

Mr. Alanie has a strong interest in research and education. He has presented widely at national and international conferences, published over 20 research articles in various highly regarded medical journals, and continues his active involvement in research in a number of different pioneering aspects of knee surgery. He is regularly invited to teach at Trauma and Orthopaedic courses at a national and international level, and is a clinical supervisor for junior doctors in the NHS. As a result of this contribution, he has been awarded the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecture at the University of Glasgow.
