About me

Dr Tom Hollingworth is a consultant gastroenterologist specialising in neurogastroenterology, nutrition, and intestinal failure. Appointed to University Hospital Southampton in 2019, he completed his training on the Wessex rotation with fellowships in advanced nutrition and advanced endoscopy.

Clinically, Tom has experience in treating a wide range of gastroenterological disorders, particularly functional and motility disorders of the gastrointestinal tract. He receives referrals both regionally and nationally for his expertise in this area. In addition, he is one of the four physicians leading the Southampton nutrition support and intestinal failure service. Southampton is one of only 12 integrated intestinal failure centres in the UK, caring for patients with complex intestinal disease requiring artificial nutrition and hydration support via tube or intravenous feeding.

Tom performs upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies. After completing his training, he undertook a fellowship in advanced endoscopy and has been bowel scope accredited.

Currently, Tom is the lead for the Gastroenterology department at University Hospital Southampton. He has also been elected to the BSG Neurogastroenterology and clinical services and standards committee. Tom is involved in local and national teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Outside of work, Tom enjoys spending time with his young family, cherishing their time together before they grow up.
