About me

Dr Rahman has been working as a Senior Consultant at Epsom and St Helier University Teaching Hospitals in departments of Respiratory & General Medicine, for the past 21 years. During a recent analysis he came on top as the most awarded Consultant of “Patient Gold Awards” and one of the most frequently applauded & acknowledged Consultant by the patients in the Trust.

I am a committed and a passionate Clinician with a long held interest in front line clinical medicine and research and at the same time I am devoted to my loving wife and three children, one of my sons is also training to be a Hospital Doctor.

Throughout their growing years my wife and family as a whole have supported my commitment to Medicine and in fact at times late evenings, weekends and festive periods my children used to join me at least in their early years for ward rounds and Hospital family activities.

I obtained my specialty experience at the prestigious teaching university hospital in Sheffield including the Royal Hallamshire and Northern General Hospitals.

Thereafter I was appointed as a Senior Registrar to the Department of Respiratory Medicine at the world renowned academic Hammersmith and The Royal Brompton Hospitals affiliated with the Imperial University.

Following my accreditation as a respiratory and medical specialist I was appointed as a Consultant Physician at The Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust in 1999-2000. I am responsible for the running of a busy Department of Respiratory Medicine which has an average of 30-35 acutely ill inpatients including patients in The Coronary Care and Intensive Care Units.

Additionally I am responsible for three weekly outpatient clinics seen a whole range of acute respiratory conditions whereby I am responsible for the diagnosis and management of such cases.

There is a weekly commitment to run a procedure service whereby I perform both straightforward and complex diagnostic bronchoscopies and pleural procedures dealing with patients who have conditions such as chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, interstitial lung disease, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, unexplained lung collapse.

From an academic point of view I have been the lead for medical audit for the last several years whereby supervising the delivery of high quality care within the Trust and making sure that guidelines from various regulatory bodies such as British and American Thoracic Societies, The National Institute of Care Excellence (NICE) are followed.

From an international point of view I have been The Site Director for International (American Medical Students) studying at The American University of Caribbean (AUC) in recognition of the academic services I was appointed as an academic Professor in 2017 by The AUC faculty.
Since 2018 I have had the honour of being appointed as a Clinical Sub Dean for Epsom & St Helier and St Georges Medical Students.

I received the NHS award during the pandemic for outstanding service to thousands of Covid inpatients that I served both as a Senior Respiratory Clinician and as a Lead for the Respiratory service, for both treating & formulating services with my colleagues and the service team.

Additionally I have continued to receive a significant number of letters of appreciation & recognition for my diagnostic work & dedication, from my patients, their relatives and from the students I teach.

Over the last couple of years I have been engaged in frontline COVID management and supporting the NHS as a lead for the respiratory service, As the lead for the Trust, I helped & guided the whole of the Trust to manage the Covid Pandemic which meant steering the Silver Command, , treatment of almost 4,500 patients with the help of my team.

I was last revalidated by GMC (mandatory for all Consultants), every 5 years in 2020.

I am also a director of the Medical Provider “Prime Medical Care Ltd”.
