About me
Mr Mettias is a highly regarded ENT consultant surgeon based in Mid and South Essex, subspecialising in thyroid and parathyroid surgery and head and neck oncology. His areas of expertise expand to include sinus conditions, ear disorders, adenotonsillar disease, and complications related to voice and swallowing. Furthermore, he has a particular interest in endoscopic sinus surgery, septoplasty, and various ear procedures. With 22 years of experience in the field of ENT, he has served diverse communities both within the UK and internationally.
After obtaining his medical degree from Cairo University in 2000, Mr. Mettias completed an extensive ENT residency at Cairo University Hospital. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2007 and further advanced his training through a second high specialty program in Glasgow and the East Midlands. In 2020, he completed the ORL-HNS fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. His specialization in thyroid and head and neck cancer was reinforced by his participation in the National Training Interface Group of Surgical Oncology fellowship at Guy's and St. Thomas Foundation Trust. He enhanced his adult and pediatric ENT expertise by working across 13 different NHS trusts in the United Kingdom.
Prof Mettias is an active member of the British Association of Head and Neck Oncologists, the British Association of Thyroid and Endocrine Surgery, and the EN-UK Society. In addition to his extensive clinical duties, he has earned a Master's degree in Meniere's disease and a Ph.D. concentrating on laryngotracheal stenosis. He is engaged in various regional and national research projects and has authored 28 peer-reviewed articles. His involvement in both national and international conferences continues to be significant.
Throughout his career, Prof Mettias has shown a strong dedication to medical education at national and international levels. He served as an assistant lecturer and subsequently as a lecturer at Fayoum University for four years. Additionally, he took on the role of junior lead in organizing East Midlands dissection courses for core trainees and high specialty registrars for three years. Additionally, he has acted as a tutor for several national academic ENT courses and continues to support the East of England deanery in his clinical and educational supervisors' roles. He is an honorary Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University Chelmsford.
