About me

Dr Banks is a consultant gastroenterologist who has worked as a specialist consultant at the Royal Surrey since 2012. She is currently the lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease seeing adults and adolescents transitioning from paediatrics. She specialises in luminal gastroenterology meaning any part of the gut from the oesophagus, stomach, small bowel and
large bowel.
She also specialises in nutrition being a core member of the nutrition support team at
the Royal Surrey.
She read medicine at the University of Southampton between 1994 and 2000
achieving First Class Honours in her intercalated BSC and a Bachelor of Medicine.
During specialist training she rotated through a number of London Teaching Hospitals including, Kings College Hospital, University College London Hospital and St George's Hospital. During this time she also completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey.
She is an experienced endoscopist and endoscopy trainer and performs
gastroscopy, colonoscopy and polypectomy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and placement
of artificial feeding tubes.
She recently qualified as a capsule reader to aid diagnosis of small bowel conditions and runs the breath test service at Royal Surrey diagnosing small bowel intestinal overgrowth. She is also an expert at treating bile salt malabsorption.
