About me

Mr Vijay Korwar is a highly experienced General and Laparoscopic Surgeon currently working at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. He is a specialist surgeon in upper Gastrointestinal Surgery procedures including; Gallbladder and Biliary surgery, all types of abdominal Hernia Surgery, Anti-reflux, and Hiatus Hernia Surgery. He currently sees private patients at Droitwich Spa Hospital and Chamberlain Clinic in Birmingham.

His further experience includes registrar-level training in the UK, where he gained extensive exposure to various general surgery subspecialties. His areas of training span Breast Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Trauma, and Transplant Surgery. Vijay further honed his skills through specialized training in Hepatobiliary Pancreatic surgery at Manchester University Hospital, Upper Gastrointestinal surgery at University Hospital Bristol, and Bariatric surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust.
In 2017, Vijay was appointed as a Consultant Upper GI surgeon at Southmead Hospital, Bristol. He later continued his impactful career at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as a Consultant Upper GI surgeon before starting in his current position.

As an experienced consultant surgeon, Vijay excels in performing keyhole Gallbladder and Bile Duct Exploration surgery.

He has done pioneering work in the establishment of a Laparoscopic ultrasound service for Bile Duct Stones at Sandwell Hospital. He is also proficient in keyhole Total Extra Peritoneal (TEP) Groin Hernia repair and incisional Hernia repair and has special interests in Anti-Reflux and Hiatal Hernia Surgery, showcasing his dedication to innovative and patient-focused care. He is an accredited Endoscopist performing Gastroscopy and intervention procedures since 2017.
