About me
Mr. Mahendar Bhat is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon. His expertise is in the management of injuries, soft tissue and degenerative conditions of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist. This includes the use of arthroscopic (keyhole) which is his special interest or open techniques for the treatment of any of the conditions listed in the profile. He makes every possible effort to always be updated with the most advanced and effective treatments available in the field of orthopaedics. This provides him the opportunity to offer the best care for his patients.
He has been practising as an Orthopaedic Surgeon for 16 years and developed a keen interest in upper limb very early in his orthopaedic training. He treats injuries involving the entire upper limb, from the clavicle (collarbone) to the finger tips. He has undertaken numerous open and keyhole procedures of the shoulder and elbow joints such as shoulder decompressions, repair of rotator cuff tears, shoulder & elbow stabilisations, shoulder replacements, tendon, nerve and joint releases at the elbow.
He has also performed numerous surgeries of the hand and wrist such as carpal tunnel decompressions, Dupuytren's contracture releases, trigger finger releases and ganglion excisions. Many of the hand and wrist procedures have been performed as wide awake surgery.
He graduated in India in 2008 and proceeded to complete his Masters in orthopaedic surgery in India. He then received further higher orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom at Kent and Surrey. This was followed by triple specialist upper limb fellowships at prestigious institutes at the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC), Northumbria NHS and Southmead Hospital, Bristol. He has also been a visiting fellow at centres of excellence in South Korea and Italy. This experience had been invaluable and helped him master the advanced surgical management for disorders of the shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist.
He has been working as a substantive consultant at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn where he also treats general orthopaedic trauma and elective conditions apart from upper limb surgery.
He has published articles relating to upper limb surgery in scientific journals of repute. One of his other significant interests is in medical education and training. He provides formal teaching in upper limb surgery and general orthopaedics and is a recognised educational and clinical supervisor of foundation doctors and orthopaedic trainees.
His patients have always held him in good stead for being empathic and a keen listener. He has routinely been complimented for his communication skills. He consistently ensures that all his patients have a complete understanding of their diagnosis which contributes to a shared decision about their treatment. He remains passionate about offering the highest standards of care to his patients.
