About me

Ms Jihene El Kafsi is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon who specialises in the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the stomach, oesophagus, and digestive system. She also has extensive experience in weight-loss (bariatric) surgery. Ms El Kafsi speaks Arabic, English, and French.
She sees patients privately at Parkside Suite Heatherwood Hospital Ascot, Parkside Suite Wexham Park Hospital, Nuffield Health Oxford The Manor Hospital and Spire Thames Valley Hospital. She also works within the NHS as a Consultant Surgeon at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Ms El Kafsi completed her medical training at the University of Cambridge and University College London, followed by specialist surgical training in Oxford. After becoming a consultant, she undertook further advanced fellowships in upper gastrointestinal and weight-loss surgery at University College London Hospitals and in New Zealand. She was appointed Consultant in Upper Gastro-Intestinal and General Surgery at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust in 2019 and subsequently in Bariatric Surgery at Ashford and St Peter's in 2020. At Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, she established a specialist gastrointestinal physiology service to investigate reflux and swallowing (motility) problems.
She offers expert assessment and treatment for acid reflux, gallstones, achalasia and weight loss. Her surgical practice includes gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, reflux surgery (such as fundoplication and LINX), hiatal hernia repair, achalasia surgery and gallbladder surgery. She also performs endoscopy and specialised tests to assess reflux and swallowing problems, including Bravo pH monitoring and oesophageal manometry. She has carried out over 150 weight-loss surgery procedures since completing her specialist training.

Ms El Kafsi has a particular interest in reflux disease and swallowing disorders, and she is committed to offering thorough investigations to ensure the most appropriate treatment for each patient. She is actively involved in research to improve outcomes in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery.

She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, where she contributes to professional committees. She also plays a leading role in national upper gastrointestinal surgical societies and is actively involved in education, regularly teaching, organising national educational meetings, and delivering courses for surgeons across the UK.
