About me

I trained in Hepatology (Liver disease) at King's College Hospital, London. I have worked as Consultant Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist in Norwich since 2003. I have completed a 5 year term as Clinical Director for the department. I remain active in the management of the department focussing on clinical improvement and clinical governance. Previously I was a member of the New Consultants' Committee of the Royal College of Physicians. I have also sat on national bodies for liver disease including the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and the development of a national quality improvement programme for liver disease (IQILS). I am a member of the European Association for the Study of Liver diseases (EASL), the British eqivalent (BASL), as well as BSG.

Sport - I enjoy regular tennis, cricket, cycling and gym sessions. I like to watch rugby, cricket and football (particularly if any of my children are participating) and hold a season ticket at Carrow Road.

I have a national UKCC Level 2 coaching award as a cricket coach.

Publications

I have published in the medical literature on severe alcoholic hepatitis including one of the largest studies ever published, as well as a collaborative publication on Hepatitis E infection in the UK.

Courses offered to GPs

I regularly give free talks to GPs and practice nurses at Spire Norwich Hospital, contribute to GP update courses held at NNUH. I have also spoken at GP courses.
