About me
Based in Hampshire, Miss Christina Summerhayes is a highly respected Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon with over 20 years' experience. She has a reputation for delivering exceptional care to patients diagnosed with breast cancer and for combining medical and surgical excellence with an understanding of her patients' emotional and physical challenges. At the forefront of oncoplastic breast surgery, she offers the most advanced treatments as well as a deep commitment to patient safety and wellbeing.
Miss Summerhayes qualified from Imperial College London in 2001 and completed her training within the Wessex region prior to accepting a National Fellowship appointment in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery. Appointed Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2011, she subsequently undertook a substantive Consultant position at the University Hospital Southampton (UHS) in 2012.ďż˝ As the Lead Clinician within the University Hospital Southampton Breast Unit, Miss Summerhayes established a specific focus on improving surgical outcomes and enhancing the output of the unit, before being appointed to her current role as Trust Clinical Cancer Lead for University Hospital Southampton. In this role she is responsible for the delivery of cancer management pathways throughout the entirety of the University Hospital Southampton Trust, whilst also retaining clinical responsibilities as a Consultant Breast Surgeon. She has acted in an
advisory capacity to Macmillan Cancer Support and has been a member of the writing group for the Oncoplastic Breast Reconstruction: Guidelines for Best Practice.
Miss Summerhayes is passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes for every patient. Her approach is centred on individualised care: she takes the time to listen to each patient's concerns, understand their unique circumstances, support their overall wellbeing and craft a tailored treatment plan. Wishing every patient to feel heard, respected and confident in her care and recognising that breast cancer is a personal journey as well as a medical challenge, she ensures that all treatment options are fully explained, offering compassionate guidance at every stage.
Married with children, Miss Summerhayes is a keen sailor and maintains an active
interest in gardening and the outdoors.
