About me
Mr Al-Hity has been practising as a Consultant Ophthalmologist with special interest in Vitreoretinal surgery and cataract surgery in Leeds for over 4 years.
He completed 7 years of ophthalmic training at the world-renowned Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow followed by 1 year’s advanced Medical Training Vitreoretinal Fellowship (AMTF).
He performs over 300 vitreoretinal procedures a year and is a high-volume, complex cataract surgeon, performing over 1200 cataract procedures per year.
Mr Al-Hity holds the post of honorary Senior Lecturer at The University of Leeds School of Medicine and supervises junior and senior trainees, including surgical retinal fellows, along with delivering medical undergraduate teaching modules. He is the lead for training students in simulated eye surgery for Leeds.
Mr Al-Hity is actively engaged in research with specialist interest in the incidence, management and future management of acute, large sub-macular haemorrhage. He oversaw and conducted the Scottish Ophthalmologist Surveillance Unit Study which was the first of its kind in the world to identify the incidence of acute, large sub-macular haemorrhage.
Mr Al-Hity has a keen interest in relief work abroad; being part of Fighting Blindness in Ethiopia in 2017 which involved establishing a cataract clinic in Nekemte where over 300 complex cataract surgeries were performed.
Mr Al-Hity is married and lives in Leeds. He enjoys a wide range of hobbies in his spare time including hiking in the Yorkshire Dales and Lake District, travelling, reading, badminton, tennis and fitness and wellbeing.
