About me
Dr Jonathan Potts is a Consultant Hepatologist specialising in pancreatobiliary medicine and liver transplantation. He qualified from King's College London in 2004 and undertook general medical and gastroenterology training in the South Thames deanery. Dr Potts training included specialist hepatology rotations at King’s College Hospital, the Royal London and the Royal Free, as well as a dedicated research fellowship evaluating novel techniques for assessment of alcohol-related liver disease, for which he was awarded a PhD in 2014. During his training Dr Potts developed an interest in biliary disorders, and after receiving gastroenterology and liver sub-speciality accreditation in 2016, he undertook fellowships in pancreatobiliary medicine at the Royal Free and University College Hospitals. In 2018 Dr Potts was appointed as transplant hepatologist and pancreatobiliary endoscopist at the Royal Free Liver Unit. In his NHS post he combines a pancreatobiliary medicine practice with his role as a liver transplant physician. Dr Potts undertook a wide range of biliary endoscopy procedures, including ERCP, cholangioscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and enteral stenting. Dr Potts has the privilege of managing a wide variety of liver patients, including those requiring inpatient and intensive care management, as well patients being considered for and following liver transplantation. In 2019 Dr Potts was awarded a place on the World Endoscopy Organisation School of EUS in Seoul, South Korea and spent three weeks gaining further exposure and experience at the renowned Asan Medical Center. Outside of medicine his wife and two young sons keep him busy and he is also a competitive runner and cyclist.
