About us

Prof Bernard Prendergast is the Chair of Cardiology at Cleveland Clinic London and maintains NHS activities as a Consultant Cardiologist at St Thomas’ Hospital in Westminster.

Before recruitment to London, he trained in Cardiology in Cardiff, Paris and Edinburgh and undertook Consultant posts at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester (2001-2007) and the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford (2007-2015). He has extensive experience in all aspects of Cardiology, is a clear communicator and strongly advocates the involvement of patients and families in their care and treatment decisions.

Prof Prendergast is a national and international key opinion leader and in frequent demand as a lecturer and speaker. He has been Honorary Secretary of the British Cardiovascular and Cardiovascular Intervention Societies, and Chairman of the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Valvular Heart Disease. Research interests focus on the epidemiology and interventional treatment of valvular heart disease and have been associated with the publication of over 300 original articles and book chapters, including high impact leading articles in The New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, Lancet, European Heart Journal and BMJ.

Prof Prendergast is the principal Course Director of PCR London Valves, the world’s largest meeting dedicated to percutaneous valve intervention, attracting a global faculty and over 3,000 international delegates. He is also a senior member of the PCR Board, the world’s largest educational programme in Interventional Cardiology, with an annual flagship meeting in Paris and satellite meetings in Africa, Asia and the Gulf. He lectures regularly in the UK and abroad, and contributes plenary lectures at the world’s leading cardiovascular conferences each year.
