About me

I am a full-time Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon in Leeds having trained at Glasgow, Leeds, Plymouth and Sheffield. This was followed by a spinal fellowship in Newcastle where the emphasis was on surgical and non-surgical management of degenerative spinal conditions, adult spinal deformity, spinal trauma and tumours. I am a committed spinal surgeon who takes into account his patients’ individual needs with the aim to provide the best possible course of treatment.

After a decade of performing both cranial and spinal surgery, I have decided to devote the entirety of my clinical practice to spinal surgery. My practice covers the treatment of wear and tear changes in the spine, spinal trauma, tumour and infection. I offer treatment options ranging from conservative management to injections and from routine to complex spinal surgery. My practice is holistic and makes the most of excellent working relationships with physiotherapists and pain specialists to provide tailor-made care.

I have a keen interest in research and have done two years of lab-based research at Leeds leading to a higher degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) under Dr Sean Lawler (Leeds/Harvard University). My current research interest includes outcome measures in degenerative spinal pathologies, foot drop, minimally invasive spinal surgery and tumour metabolism. I am also actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training and hold honorary senior lecturer position in University of Leeds.

I have published 5 book chapters on spinal surgery and more than 30 articles/abstracts in peer-reviewed academic journals. I have also presented extensively in spinal surgery, both nationally and internationally. I have been an invited faculty member for a number of hands-on courses and lectures both nationally and internationally and am also associate editor for British Journal of Neurosurgery and reviewer for European Spine Journal and World Neurosurgery.
