About me

I am a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon. I specialise in minimally invasive surgery for weight loss (bariatrics), gallstones, hiatus hernias, acid-reflux, groin hernias and cancer.

I lead the robotic UGI surgery service at St James's Hospital, offering robotic surgery for weight loss, acid-reflux, and cancers of the stomach and oesophagus.

I believe in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and will take the time to discuss different treatments and help you to make the choices best suited to your individual needs.

I have a particular interest in improving care systems to provide better patient-experiences and outcomes. This work has been recognised by the NHS Leadership Academy. I represent Yorkshire as a regional council member at the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery (AUGIS).

I have a strong research interest. I am the NIHR Clinical Research Network Lead for UGI surgery in Yorkshire and Humber and am actively involved in delivering several large UK trials. These include new surgical techniques and treatments to improve patient outcomes, and novel methods to monitor patients after surgery to improve quality of life. I have published over 50 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and presented my work nationally and internationally.
