Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon FRCS (Tr&Orth), Elbow, Hand and Wrist
James Logan is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in traumatic and degenerative conditions of the hand and wrist. He takes a particular interest in complex wrist trauma and sports-related injuries.
Background
James undertook orthopaedic hand surgery fellowships with Professor David Warwick at University Hospital Southampton and Professor Mark Ross at Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb unit in Queensland Australia. He also undertook a specialist orthoplastics hand surgery fellowship at University Hospitals Birmingham.
James graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2007 before beginning his medical career as a houseman at the Royal Surrey County Hospital. He subsequently underwent Surgical training in the Wessex Deanery before returning to the Guildford Deanery to take up a post as a consultant hand and orthopaedic surgeon in 2019. In between he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from Cardiff Metropolitan University, in 2015.
Research and clinical interests
James has published a number of peer-reviewed scientific papers in hand surgery and in orthopaedics in general. He has written a number of book chapters, including revising the hand and wrist chapter for the 42nd edition of Gray's Anatomy.
Personal interests
James has represented Great Britain at alpine skiing and England Universities at Rugby Union. Like many former rugby players with sore knees, he can now frequently be found cycling in the Surrey Hills. James lives near Guildford with his wife and three sons.
