About me

I qualified from St Thomas's Hospital Medical School in 1986. After house jobs at St Thomas,s I obtained Medical SHO rotations around the London area
I was appointed gastroenterology registrar at St George' Hospital, London and undertook a research programme at the hospital leading to the successful award of my higher degree. My thesis examined immune mechanisms in alcoholic liver disease. This period of research led to the publication of numerous papers and presentations at national and international meetings.
I was appointed as a senior registrar to the transplant liver unit in Birmingham before obtaining my consultant gastroenterology post in Kings Lynn in 1998. In 2020 I was appointed as a consultant gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust where I currently practice.
Over the last 20 years I have developed extensive gastroenterology and liver services/ experience. I have an exemplary endoscopic practice as evidenced by my key performance indicators.
I have developed a highly regarded local and regional gastroenterology training programme within Eastern region as Chair of the regional training committee.
I have served on numerous regional and national committees of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) and Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
I have held a number of senior national positions. I am currently Chair of the Clinical Services and Standards committee of the BSG and quality improvement lead for the UK. I am an immediate past Censor of the RCP. My local, regional and national roles have resulted in a national silver clinical excellence award. I am an expert witness for my specialty and have compiled in the region of 100 reports.
I take a particular pride in putting patients first and have received outstanding feedback from patients and colleagues with regards to my patient care. Testament to this is the number of colleagues who refer family members to me and I receive numerous referrals for second opinions.
