About me

Mr Butt’s practice encompasses all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery, from arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery to complex reconstructive and revision procedures. His NHS base is the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH, Stanmore), where he receives referrals from other orthopaedic surgeons across the country for the management of complex instability, infection and revision joint replacement. He is a meticulous surgeon using up to date and evidenced based techniques to treat every patient’s individual needs.

Mr Butt qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ London Medical School achieving a BSc in Neuroscience alongside his MBBS medical qualification. During his Orthopaedic Training in London and the South East of England, he also completed an MSc in Orthopaedic Science at the University of Brighton.

Since gaining fellowship to the Royal College of Surgeons, he undertaken two specialist fellowships at world renowned institutions of Guy’s Hospital London and RNOH, with special emphasis on complex shoulder and elbow reconstruction. He was awarded the prestigious Watanabe Travelling Fellowship in 2017 and used this opportunity to visit specialists in arthroscopic shoulder surgery at national centres of excellence.

He has wide ranging research interests including an emphasis on the results of surgical intervention and leads the departmental collection of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs). He has completed a MSc in orthopaedic science, presented at international scientific meetings and published in the orthopaedic research literature as well as being the author of textbook chapters related to shoulder and elbow surgery.

Effective and careful communication is central to his practice to ensure the patient is fully informed and involved with all decisions on treatment both operatively and non-operatively. He works closely with Therapy colleagues and strongly believes in a multidisciplinary and patient centred approach to treatment.
