About me
I am a Consultant General and Laparoscopic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Hepatobiliary pancreas surgery (diseases of the liver , gallbladder , bile duct and pancreas ). With more than 30 yrs of General Surgery experience I offer keyhole surgery for a wide variety of abdominal conditions such as Gallstones, Abdominal and Inguinal Hernia , Appendicectomy , Abdominal pain , Adhesions and Bowel obstruction / Perforation.
My thorough approach combined with my endeavour to provide high quality and safe patient care ensuring utmost patient satisfaction makes me one of the most sought-after surgeons, held in high esteem by staff and patients as evidenced through patient reviews https://www.doctify.co.uk/specialist/mr_niteen_tapuria). I have a high volume surgical practice at my current NHS base and have a strong interest in robotics, artificial intelligence and ambulatory surgery .
Specialities
a).Laparoscopic( keyhole ) /Open Gallbladder Surgery:
I have been a principal investigator in
the Sunflower trial which investigated the role of MRI in gallstones and the S-Gallop trial looking at incidental gallbladder cancer in patients who have had gallbladder removal .
I offer rapid diagnosis and management of gallstones having performed more than 1000 laparoscopic (keyhole) cholecystectomies with a 99 percent daycase rate as evidenced through regular audit. My specialist skills in Hepatobiliary surgery enable management of complex and acute gallstone disease, bile duct stones and pancreatitis.
b).Laparoscopic(keyhole)/ Open groin hernia surgery:
I have a special interest in minimally invasive surgery of groin hernia, open hernia operations and management of recurrent groin hernia. I choose the best approach in managing these conditions tailored to patient choice. Based on recently published international guidelines I offer consultations to asymptomatic patients as an early operation has better long term outcome than wait and watch in this group of patients.
c). Complex abdominal wall reconstruction / Abdominal wall hernia - laparoscopic /open approach:
Umbilical hernia, ventral hernia , Incisional hernia and complex abdominal wall hernia result in poor abdominal wall function and quality of life of patients . I offer abdominal wall reconstruction as well as abdominal hernia repair by laparoscopic/open techniques through a multidisciplinary approach ensuring good functional and cosmetic outcome .
d).Acute abdominal surgery: laparoscopic and open operations for inflammed gallbladders, appendicitis, small bowel and large bowel conditions, diagnostic laparoscopy for pain.
e).Excision of skin lesions and surgical management of haemorrhoids/ fissure /anal skin tags.
Education and training
I qualified in 1992 followed by MS in General Surgery from a major tertiary referral centre , Delhi and completed my higher specialist surgical training in General and Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery across Londons most prestigious hospitals including UCLH, Royal Free Hospital , Royal Marsden Hospital and Kings College Hospital . Additionally, I completed the Mc Master fellowship at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and a fellowship in Robotic surgery at University Hospital, Pisa. I was appointed as a HPB consultant at Royal Liverpool prior to moving to my current NHS base at Milton Keynes where I have a high volume surgical practice including emergency surgery.
Awards
I am a recipient of the European Society of Surgical Oncology Fellowship and Peter Samuel Grant (Royal Free NHS Trust).
Academic achievements
I was awarded an MD in 2008 from the University College of London for my research work which demonstrated the protective role of preconditioning on organs by regulation of endothelial function. I have published in peer reviewed journals and presented at International conferences. I am a reviewer for the British Journal of Surgery.
