About me

Mr Joseph Ring is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who works at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation trust and the Circle Beaumont Hospital, Bolton. His specialist interest is surgery of the Foot and Ankle, and Trauma surgery. His interest covers the whole spectrum of Foot and Ankle conditions and their operative and non-operative management. This includes pain, deformity, footwear problems, arthritis, inflammatory conditions, lumps and bumps. In addition, Mr Ring has a keen interest in the management of a range of foot and ankle trauma both in the acute and chronic setting both bony and soft tissue including sports injuries and conditions.

Mr Ring graduated from Manchester University in 2006 with his medical degree and an additional intercalated Biomedical Science Bsc degree. After this he undertook his Foundation and Basic Surgical Training in the West Midlands and Mersey. Then returned to the Northwest to complete his Higher Surgical Training in orthopaedics. During this training Mr Ring spent a year in Wrightington. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2016 and was awarded the certificate of completion of specialist surgical training (CCT) in 2017. Following this Mr Ring undertook two Post-CCT fellowships at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. One in Foot and Ankle Surgery and one in Trauma and Limb Reconstruction. Mr Ring was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Bolton Hospital in January 2019. In April 2023, Mr Ring moved his NHS role to Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Hospital Trust, one of the countries leading Orthopaedic Specialist units.

Mr Ring is experienced in research and has a number of presentations and publications in Foot and Ankle and Trauma surgery as well as patient safety and litigation. This includes research looking at litigation in Foot and Ankle surgery, ankle replacements, Foot and Ankle trauma and the management of great toe arthritis.

Mr Ring has a keen interest in education and has experience of teaching of healthcare professionals of all levels and has post graduate qualifications to support this work. In addition, Mr Ring has an interest in providing the highest quality care through high quality Medical Leadership and has completed the British Orthopaedic Association National Fellowship and had obtained a Master’s Level Qualification in Strategic Leadership and Management.
