About me

Mr Ibnauf Suliman is a colorectal and general surgeon consultant at the Royal Free Hospital.
He completed his advanced surgical specialist registrar training at the London Deanery rotating through University College, the Royal Free and the Royal London Hospitals. He then completed a Laparoscopic fellowship in Concord Repatriation Hospital, Sydney, a Pelvic floor fellowship at the The Royal London Hospital, and a Robotic and Pelvic Exenteration fellowship at The Royal Marsden Hospital. He also spent time at the Cleveland Clinic learning HiPEC for advanced peritoneal cancers furthering his surgical training.

Following this, he joined the Royal Free London NHS Trust as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon in 2018.

During his time at University College London and the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, he undertook a Doctorate of Medicine and his medical research interest was finding novel bowel cancer screening methods, in every effort to improve outcomes for his patients. He has published and presented internationally in this field and gained a research prize from University College London.

As part of his busy clinical practice, he is the current chair of the colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team and has a strong interest in promoting minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also performs surgical procedures for kindly advanced cancers and endometriosis. He is keen to identify colorectal pathologies early and performs regular endoscopy sessions.

His leadership roles range from governance and audit lead, deputy clinical lead, colorectal robotic lead and emergency laparotomy pathway lead. He is also actively involved in the education of junior surgeons and is an examiner at UCL Medical School.
