About me

I am a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon with an interest in disorders of the hip and knee. I am also an honorary senior lecturer at Leeds University. I studied medicine in Aberdeen, following which I commenced my basic surgical training, initially in Aberdeen, subsequently spending a year studying orthopaedics in Wellington, New Zealand. I became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2005.

My higher surgical training was based in Aberdeen. During this time, I was the clinical lecturer for orthopaedics in the North of Scotland. I completed my higher surgical training in 2012 and then commenced senior fellowship posts.

My first fellowship was spent focusing on joint replacement, complex joint replacement, and revision joint replacements. During this time, I also commenced novel research on ways to image cartilage. My second fellowship brought me to Leeds, furthering my experience in joint replacement, unicompartmental knee replacement, and revision joint replacement.

I also specialise in complex hip and knee problems as a result of haemophilia and other bleeding disorders. I am the Orthopaedic lead for the Haemophilia Service in Leeds. I submit all my hip and knee joint replacement, and revision hip and knee joint replacement data to the National Joint Registry as part of ongoing governance. I am the joint lead for orthopaedic medical education for final year medical students at Leeds University. In 2018, our team were awarded a Clinical Teaching Excellence Award by the University of Leeds. I am on the editorial board for the Orthopaedics and Trauma journal.
