Mr Julian Foote is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, including total and partial joint replacement, arthroscopic keyhole knee procedures, and robotic assisted knee joint replacement. He provides expert, patient centred care at Bath Clinic, Sulis and the Royal United Hospital RUH Bath, where his focus is always on achieving the best possible outcome for every patient.

Younger patients with ligament or soft tissue injuries may be referred to specialist colleagues where appropriate, while older adults with arthritis or progressive knee symptoms can receive full assessment and treatment directly with Mr Foote.

As part of his specialist knee practice, Mr Foote performs both minimally invasive and major knee procedures. Knee arthroscopy is used to treat meniscal tears, remove loose bodies, or take biopsies via a keyhole approach that allows a quicker recovery. He also performs total knee replacement using modern Stryker components designed for long term durability and function.
For patients suitable for less invasive surgery, he offers partial knee replacement using the renowned Oxford system, which preserves more of the natural knee and can support a quicker recovery.

Mr Foote is an expert in Mako robotic assisted knee replacement, a technique increasingly chosen by patients for its precision and personalised planning. The Mako system allows implants to be positioned with a high level of accuracy based on each patients unique anatomy. This technology can support quicker recovery, improve joint function and increase surgical confidence, and is becoming an important part of modern joint replacement practice.

Many patients prefer to explore nonsurgical options before considering joint replacement, and Mr Foote offers several treatments designed to reduce pain and support joint function. Steroid injections may be used to relieve inflammation in the hip or knee, although they may not be suitable for every patient depending on age and other health factors.

Younger patients often have different expectations regarding activity levels, implant longevity and preservation of joint function. Mr Foote carefully discusses these factors and will often consider uncemented implants or specialised techniques designed to last longer and support a more active lifestyle. His treatment plans are always tailored to the individual, ensuring that decisions reflect both clinical needs and personal goals.
