About me

Mr Gnanachandran is a consultant gynaecologist working at Northampton General hospital and BMI TSH.
He does provide TP consultation for selected patients.

He is expertise in fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, adnexal masses, fertility surgeries, early gynaecology malignancy and cancer preventions, laparoscopic reception of endometriosis, fibroids (open or laparoscopic) and laparoscopic hysterectomy.

He provides a range of treatments for patients with various gynaecology conditions such as pelvic pain (endometriosis, PID adenomyosis, fibroids, ovarian cyst), heavy periods (fibroids, adenomyosis), cervical abnormalities, ovarian/ adnexal masses and early endometrial cancer.

Mr Gnanachandran is IOTA certified and provides one-stop clinic and effective minimal surgery in the following areas:

1) gynaecology scan such as TAS, TVS, 3d for gynaecology and HyCoSy, scanning and ovarian cyst assessment for cancer and benign conditions. Currently, he is the only person nationally to offer 3D TVS for fibroids and uterine abnormality, HyCOSY for tubal patency and IOTA/ adnexal model assessment of ovarian cyst for risk malignancy.

2) hysteroscopy, hysteroscopic removal of polyp and resection of fibroids. He uses mechanical removal of polyps and bipolar or mono-polar resection of fibroids.

3) laparoscopic hysterectomies including patients with endometriosis, fibroids and early endometrial cancer; he performs around 90% of hysterectomies laparoscopically. (laparotomy mainly if MRI/MDT indicates for large fibroids unable to exclude malignancies/ and morcellation related risks)

4) fibroids - myomectomy: see link ( Laparoscopic myomectomy if less than four fibroids- open if > 4 fibroids / large calcified fibroids)

5) endometriosis: Stage 1-3 / Stage 4 send to the endometriosis centre currently. Stage 3, sometimes jointly with specific endometriosis, interests bowel surgeons.

6) Colposcopy and treatment of Cervical precancer and early cervical cancer. He is an accredited colposcopist. He follows National cervical screening and Local Guidelines to avoid unnecessary treatment but provides appropriate treatments.

He is the NGH Site Primary investigator for 2 research studies:
1) ROCkeTS: A study looking at improving tests for ovarian cancer in an ovarian cyst, pelvic mass, high ca 125 and ovarian cancer symptoms.
2) PROTECTOR is a research study for women who are at an increased risk of developing ovarian cancer. Some women may have an increased risk due to:
a. Carrying an alteration in ovarian cancer-causing genes such as BRCA1, BRCA2, RAD51C, RAD51D or BRIP1.
b. Having a strong family history of ovarian and breast cancer or ovarian cancer alone.

Areas of interest

Laparoscopic hysterectomies (key hole removal of womb) including patients with fibroids and early endometrial cancer; performs around 90% of hysterectomies laparoscopically.

Gynaecology scanning at higher standard for endometriosis (pelvic pain), ovarian cyst(IOTA), endometrial assessment for irregular bleeding (IETA)

Fibroids - myomectomy: see link ( Laparoscopic myomectomy if less than four fibroids- open if > 4 fibroids / large calcified fibroids)

Ovarian cyst, pelvic pain and endometriosis: Stage 1-3 / Stage 4 send to the endometriosis centre currently. Stage 3, sometimes jointly with specific endometriosis, interests bowel surgeons.
