About me
Dr Patel qualified from University College London Medical School in 2000, graduating in the top 10% of her year and received a distinction.
She trained in Clinical Oncology at Charing Cross Hospital, Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and University College London Hospital.
Following completion of specialist training, Dr Patel spent a year undergoing a Fellowship In Prostate cancer at McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Canada and published several papers in distinguished international journals.
She was appointed as a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in September 2014, working between St Luke's Cancer Centre and Frimley Park Hospital.
Dr Patel is a highly experienced oncologist, having over 20 years experience in treating primary and secondary breast cancer patients using all types of treatment modalities;
-Chemotherapy
-Radiotherapy
-Immunotherapy
-Targeted treatment eg CDK4/6 inhibitors
-Antibody treatment eg Phesgo, Herceptin
As a Clinical Oncologist, she is able to treat patients with both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, avoiding the need to see another oncologist and potential delays that may occur due to this.
Dr Patel is the Principal investigator at Royal Surrey Cancer Centre for two major national clinical trials on breast radiotherapy, Parable and FastForward boost. As a result, she is highly trained and up to date in advanced breast radiotherapy techniques to minimise toxicity to normal organs such as the heart and lungs.
As a female oncologist, Dr Patel understands the concerns a woman diagnosed with breast cancer may have with body image, fertility, sexual health and menopausal symptoms. She prides herself in treating patients holistically, having honest conversations with patients to allow them to make the best decision for themselves and their treatment pathway.
