About me

Having started as a health care assistant and then a diagnostic radiographer receiving a 1st class BSc (Hons) from City University London, Mr Horsburgh studied medicine at Queen Mary College of London (Bart's and the London medical school) qualifying in 2007 with a distinction in clinical science. Foundation and core surgical training was in his home in the North East of England. Higher training as a urology registrar was in the Mersey Deanery.

Mr Horsburgh has published and presented internationally. Awards received include; Riddoch Frears prize for Neurology 2006, best trainee presentation at British Association of Urological Surgeons Conference Liverpool 2010, Urology Foundation travelling scholarship 2015, best poster in section at European Association of Urology 2016, best consultant award from foundation doctors 2018, best annual trust wide quality improvement project 2021 and best clinical supervisor award from foundation doctors 2022.

In 2015 Mr Horsburgh was awarded a place on the BAUS section of Endourology Fellowship course - a chance to study advanced urinary tract stone management with a panel of national experts. This took place at Dartford Hospital.

Recent practice includes;
- Consultant Urologist at Epsom and St Helier Hospital
- Lead clinician for the south west London regional Lithotripsy unit based at Epsom hospital
- A core member of the Epsom and St Helier Urology cancer and urinary tract stone multidisciplinary team meetings
- ESWL services at Ashford and St Peters Hospital
- Locum work NHS 18 week support and Medinet
- NHS/Private practice in local private hospitals

Other interests in medicine include;
Radiation protection during urological surgery - international publications on reducing staff and patient radiation doses during ureteroscopic stone surgery.
Medical education - currently studying at university of Warwick a postgraduate certificate in medical education, educational supervisor of foundation year doctors, clinical supervision for all grades of junior doctors, participates in teaching rota for foundation doctors, medical students from C and the American university of the Caribbean medical school.
IT in medicine - recently developed AI based systems to manage workflow for the south west London ESWL unit to improve patient waiting times.

General urology conditions; raised PSA; difficulties with urination in males and females; blood in the urine; penile/scrotal conditions; urinary tract stone surgery performing lithotripsy and minimal access laser fragmentation of stones via ureteroscopy; transurethral resection of prostate; cystoscopy (including adjunct procedures); cancer diagnostic tests;
