About me

I am Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and upper limb problems and treat a wide range of shoulder conditions for Bupa patients, including rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, arthritis, instability and injuries related to work, sport or everyday life.

My private practice is at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital in Stockton on Tees, and I run a busy NHS practice at the Friarage Northallerton and James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

I graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and completed my surgical training in Merseyside, including time at Wrightington Hospital. I also gained a Master's degree with Distinction from Salford University. After completing my specialist training, I undertook advanced fellowship training in keyhole shoulder surgery and shoulder joint replacement at South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust.

Since becoming a consultant in 2016, I have worked within a busy regional shoulder service, treating routine and complex cases including trauma and military injuries. This experience helps me offer clear guidance and tailored treatment plans for patients with both long?standing and sudden shoulder problems.

Alongside my clinical work, I remain involved in research, publish regularly in orthopaedic journals and review studies for national and international publications. I also teach and support the training of shoulder surgeons from the UK and overseas.

Philip is an outdoor pursuits enthusiast and has kayaked all over the world including white water in Nepal, Norway, Slovenia and Italy. He has skippered yachts on day and night passages through busy ports and remote areas of Scotland. He is a also a keen cyclist and is slowly making his way through the 100 greatest cycling climbs.
