About me

As a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital I practice in all areas of general urology; my main sub-speciality interest being the minimally invasive management of urinary stone disease.

I was born in West Yorkshire, grew up in Birmingham and attended King Edward VI Five ways grammar school. In 1999 I went to the historic and internationally reputable medical school in Marischal College, University of Aberdeen. I discovered my surgical roots whilst undertaking traditional dissection anatomy classes and was subsequently awarded the Jamieson Medal.
In 2007, I worked as a urology registrar in Wellington, New Zealand where I developed my passion for urology. On my return, I undertook specialist training on the East of Scotland Training Scheme, working in specialist centres in Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

In 2012 sub-speciality training took me to Sydney, Australia, where I underwent a 15 month fellowship in endoluminal surgery and upper tract cancer. The fellowship allowed me to hone my skills on laser prostate surgery focusing on enucleation techniques. I have developed sub-speciality expertise in, rigid and flexible ureteroscopy with laser stone fragmentation, and percutaneous stone surgery.

I am married to Julie-Rose, a local GP and have 3 young children. During my spare time I enjoy road cycling and running. I am currently preparing for the 2020 Brighton marathon.
