About me

Mr Sanjeev Kotwal is a Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon based in Leeds. His NHS practice in based at St James' University Hospital and private practice at the Spire Hospital, Nuffield Hospital and Nova Healthcare in Leeds. He also holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer post with the University of Leeds.

He obtained his primary medical qualification in 1998 and completed post-graduate surgical training from University of Delhi in 2002. After moving to the UK in 2003, he pursued training in urology as a field of his surgical passion and developed his research interest in bladder and prostate cancer. He obtained his specialist urology and robotic surgery training in Leeds and wider Yorkshire area.

To further his robotic surgical skills, he received scholarships from The Urology Foundation and Ralph Shackman Trust to undertake clinical visits to following of robotic centres of excellence in the United States and Europe

Mr Kotwal was appointed as Consultant Urologist with sub-specialist interest in Pelvic Oncology at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Feb 2015. His main focus of work includes Robotic surgery for a variety of malignant and benign urological conditions. Mr Kotwal played a pioneering role in the development and successfully established the Robotic Cystectomy programme at St James University Hospital in Leeds in 2016. The introduction of Robotic Cystectomy with Construction of Intra-corporeal Urinary Diversion allowed significant reduction in post-operative hospital stay, blood transfusion rates and overall recovery time for his bladder cancer patients. He specialises in performing a wide range of urological robotic surgical operations as detailed below.
