About me
Mr John Timperley MBChB, FRCS (Ed), DPhil (Oxon)
John Timperley is a hip replacement specialist surgeon. His practice concentrates entirely on primary, complex primary and revision total hip replacements. He has an evidence-based practice concentrating on excellence in surgical technique to get the very best functional result and longevity from joint replacements.
John carried out his postgraduate education in several Centres of Excellence in the United Kingdom including the Exeter Hip Unit under Robin Ling OBE. He was awarded a British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) grant and the John Charnley Research Fellowship to travel to centres of hip and knee arthroplasty excellence in North America as well as a Johnson & Johnson Hip and Knee Fellowship based in Ohio, USA.
He completed a Ph.D. at the University of Oxford and his research interest continues in the academic Hip Unit in Exeter. He lectures on hip surgery extensively both nationally and internationally.He has been invited to address the National congresses of USA, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Spain, Argentina, Venezuela, Japan, Poland and, for three consecutive years has given Instructional Course lectures at the America Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
John was elected to the Council of the British Orthopaedic Association in 2009 and as Hon. Treasurer of the Association (2012-2014).
He was President of the British Hip Society (2103-2014) and continues on the Executive of that body. He is Hip Unit Specialty Lead at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter. and has a clinical practice in Exeter and London.
