About me
Chris Panos has been practising Ophthalmology for more than 14 years.
After graduating from Semmelweis University in 1998 he continued his Ophthalmology training in Greece and the United Kingdom. It is during this time he developed his passion for ophthalmic microsurgery.
He has held NHS posts within the UK since 2011 initially as a fellow at Queens Hospital London followed by various consultant, clinical fellow and honorary fellowship roles at a number of NHS trusts including the acclaimed Oxford Eye and Moorfields Eye Hospital.
He currently holds a substantive consultant ophthalmic surgeon post with Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust where he is the lead clinician for Glaucoma, working in Surrey and London. The Glaucoma team there recently received the best UK Ophthalmology team award at the Bayer Ophthalmology Honours 2016.
Chris specialises in medical, laser and surgical Glaucoma management including complex surgical cases. This includes conventional filtration surgery, tube implant surgery as well as minimally invasive Glaucoma procedures (MIGS).
He also specialises in modern small incision cataract surgery with significant experience managing cataracts in patients with Glaucoma and performing cataract surgery using a femtosecond laser.
Training
He held positions as a fellow at Queens Hospital London then became a clinical leadership fellow with the Barking and Havering University Hospitals NHS Trust. He was involved in projects aimed at improving care and safety for acute patients followed by presentations to the well respected Kings Fund think tank.
He continued training as a Glaucoma and A&E fellow with Moorfields Eye Hospital where he also held the position as an honorary consultant in Cataract and Glaucoma with University College London Hospital.
He concluded his Glaucoma and Cataract training with a fellowship at the Oxford Eye Hospital where he became exposed to complex surgical patients. Alongside his work with patients he was involved in several research activities with the eye research group Oxford (ERGO) and has participated in clinical trials himself. Chris has always been passionate about medical education and its teaching including the use of new concepts and modern technology to improve surgical outcomes.
Qualifications
He is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, a fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology, member of the UK Glaucoma society and a member of the European Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
