About me
Dr Matthew Huggett was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in 2014. He has specialist registration in both Gastroenterology and Hepatology, with a major interest in pancreaticobiliary disease. He performs advanced level endoscopy including EUS and ERCP, as well as general endoscopy and colonoscopy. He sees patients with all forms of Gastroenterology and Liver diseases.
His training involved experience at major centres in London including the Royal Free Hospital, King's Liver Unit and St Mary's Hospital, followed by a fellowship in advanced endoscopy at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He was awarded a PhD from University College London in 2014 following his work into DNA replication in pancreatic cancer. His ongoing research interests include interventional endoscopy, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis and pancreatic cystic tumours. He is a founding member of the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Research Group for Pancreas.
He is Training Programme Director for Yorkshire Gastroenterology Training and Clinical Lead for the West Yorkshire Regional Endoscopy Training Centre.
He is President-Elect of The Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, and is also a member of the BSG Endoscopy Committee. He is the Project Lead for the JAG/ BSG Standards for Interventional EUS. He is involved in training UK and overseas doctors in advanced endoscopy.
