About me
Professor Nikhil Vasdev is a leading figure in Robotic Urological Surgery and Oncology, blending clinical excellence, innovation and academic leadership. His career spans advanced surgical techniques, global mentorship, research leadership and influential academic roles.
He is Full Professor and Chair of Robotic Surgery at the Hertfordshire Medical School, University of Hertfordshire. Prof Vasdev is a Consultant Urological and Robotic Surgeon and Associate Medical Director for Cancer (Cancer Lead) at the Lister Hospital, East and North Herts Teaching NHS Trust, UK. Professor Vasdev also holds an international professorship at the Apollo Hospitals Education and Research foundation, India. He holds certification in AI from Harvard Medical School and has complete a National Clinical Leadership programme at Prostate Cancer UK. His private practice is at Pinehill Hospital, Hitchin and One Hatfield Hospital, Hatfield.
Prof Vasdev's specialist interest is Urologic Oncology (Clinical and Academic). He specializes in both Robotic Prostate and Bladder cancer surgery (Robotic Prostatectomy with intra-operative Frozen section of prostate (NeuroSAFE) and extended pelvic lymph node dissection and Robotic Cystectomy) and kidney surgery (Robotic Nephrectomy and Robotic Pyeloplasty). Prof Vasdev in 2019 has commenced preforming Robotic Salvage Prostatectomy and Robotic Salvage Cystectomy (In patients with cancer recurrence following initial Radical radiotherapy).
Prof Vasdev also performs Robotic cystectomy with both ileal conduit and neobladder formation. In August 2023, Professor Vasdev commenced the Robotic Aquaablation prostate programme for Hertfordshire and has completed 100 Aquablations succesfully in June 2025.He has completed over 1650 major cancer Robotic surgeries. He is a national and international proctor in Robotic Surgery and Co-Director of the Lister Urological Royal College of England Robotic Fellowship.
Prof Vasdev has published extensively and has over 250 peer-reviewed articles and is the section editor for Urology in Gray's surgical anatomy 2026. His research interest includes New Robotic Platform Development, Urological Biomarker Development, Low pressure pneumoperitoneum research, Artificial Intelligence led MRI Prostate cancer research and medical education.
