About me

Tessa Fayers is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working at the Western Eye Hospital, Marylebone (adults) and St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington (children). She specialises in oculoplastic (eyelid), orbital (eye socket) and lacrimal (tear duct) conditions as well as complex cataract surgery and eye emergencies.

She graduated with Honours from Bristol University Medical School, including a First Class Honours Bsc in Psychology, for which she was awarded a Wolfson Foundation award. She also won awards from the Institute of Medical Ethics and the Bristol Medico-Chirurgical Society.
Tessa’s ophthalmic training was based at major London teaching hospitals: St Thomas' Hospital, King's College Hospital, St Mary's and the Western Eye Hospitals. She did more than two years of subspecialist fellowship training in oculoplastic, orbital and lacrimal surgery at the world-renowned Moorfield's Eye Hospital, London and at the prestigious University of British Colombia, Vancouver, Canada, for which she was awarded a TFC Frost Fellowship as well as research awards from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and St Thomas' Hospital.

She is the Research Lead for Oculoplastics in the Imperial College Ophthalmic Research Group Clinical Trials Unit and is currently Chief Investigator for three clinical research trials. She has published numerous original research papers in high-ranking ophthalmology journals on topics including thyroid eye disease, blepharospasm and tear duct surgery. She has a particular interest in the impact of conditions such as thyroid eye disease and watery eyes on patients’ quality of life. One of her research studies was voted the best oculoplastic paper presented at the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2015.
