About me

Mr Gary Atkin is a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Colorectal surgery. He trained on the North West Thames surgical rotation, and underwent specialist colorectal training at St Mark’s and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals. He also performed a laparoscopic colorectal fellowship at Queen Elizabeth II Hospital prior to taking up his NHS consultant post in 2010.

Areas of interest

As a colorectal surgeon he specialises in the investigation of bowel symptoms such diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding and anal pain or itching. He treats a range of conditions such as bowel cancer (colon cancer, rectal cancer), diverticulitis, haemorrhoids (piles), rectal prolapse, anal fissure, anal fistula, gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy for gallstones), and hernias (eg inguinal hernia, femoral hernia, umbilical hernia). He has a specialist interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including keyhole surgery for rectal polyps and cancers (TAMIS procedure).
