About me

Mr David Smith is a Consultant Colorectal & General Surgeon. He undertook a BSc Honours in Biochemistry before qualifying in Medicine from the University of Liverpool. He went on to Higher Surgical Training in the Manchester region before an Ethicon sponsored Fellowship in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

He was appointed as Consultant Surgeon at Royal Bolton Hospital in 2012 and is the current lead clinician for the management of colorectal cancer. He is currently the clinical lead for the colorectal Best Timed Pathway project aimed at speeding up the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. He is member of the regional Deanery surgical training committee.

His practice covers all areas of general and colorectal surgery. He has specific interests in laparoscopic colorectal surgery for benign and malignant disease, and the management of early rectal cancer and polyps.

He teaches junior & senior surgical trainees in all aspects of general, colorectal surgery and endoscopy.
