Mr Andrew R Davies
Qualifications: BSc, MBChB, MSc, MD, FRCS

Andrew Davies graduated from Edinburgh University and subsequently undertook his higher surgical training in the South East London region. This included time spent at King’s College, the Royal Marsden and St Thomas’ hospitals. During his training he was awarded two prestigious laparoscopic surgery fellowships to UPMC, Pittsburg, USA and Unitas MC, Pretoria, SA.

He is currently a consultant Upper GI surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in general and oesophago-gastric surgery. The unit is a tertiary referral centre for oesophageal and gastric cancer as well as complex benign disorders of the oesophagus and stomach.

He has expertise in a wide range of general surgical procedures including cholecystectomy (gallbladder surgery) and hernia repairs (both open & laparoscopic / keyhole approaches). He also performs a high volume of procedures for oesophago-gastric cancer and has expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgery - hiatus hernia repair (anti-reflux surgery), cadiomyotomy (Achalasia) and GIST resection. He also performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and minor surgical procedures such as skin lumps and bumps.

He has a strong academic background with a first class honours BSc, a Masters with distinction and an MD in the staging and management of oesophageal cancer. He has ongoing research links with King’s College London (Associate Professor of surgery) as well as the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. He regularly review articles for leading scientific journals and is on the editorial board for the British Journal of Surgery. He has been an invited speaker at numerous national and international meetings.
