About me

Paul Rajjayabun graduated in Medicine from the University of Birmingham in 1994 and subsequently went on to be awarded a MD in Molecular Biology from the Cancer Research Unit, University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He completed his specialist training in Urological Surgery in the West Midlands Deanery and was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in 2008.

Mr Rajjayabun has a broad interest in all aspects of adult Urology with sub-specialist expertise in minimal access/laparoscopic surgery for malignant and benign conditions of the urinary tract. He has performed over 450 laparoscopic ‘keyhole’ kidney operations – many for patients with cancer.

He offers laser surgical techniques in Urology to treat non-emergency stone disease.

He implemented ‘Transperineal Template’ prostate biopsy techniques in Worcestershire. He secured over £300K of funding to procure diagnostic equipment to support this. Data on his outcomes for this procedure have been presented internationally. He offers state of the art, MRI fusion guided sampling with the team from Prostate Care UK.

His research and clinical work has been presented to numerous learned societies including The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, The Royal Society of Medicine, The American Association of Urology, The World Congress of Endourology, The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The British Association of Urological Surgeons. His clinical team has been awarded the Lister Legacy Prize from The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Peter Ryan Prize from the West Midlands Urology Society.

Mr Rajjayabun acts as an Intercollegiate International Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and was formerly Senior Examiner for the University of Birmingham Medical School. He sat on the regional specialist Urology training committee for Health Education England for over 15 years supporting specialist surgeons in training.

Mr Rajjayabun strongly supports research in the NHS and previously held the role of West Midlands South CRN Speciality Lead for Surgery and was a member of the National Institute for Health Research Surgery Specialty Group. He has collaboratively recruited patients into numerous key clinical trials investigating treatments for Urological cancer.

Mr Rajjayabun held the management executive post of Divisional Medical Director for Surgery at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. During his tenure he oversaw a budget turnover of £150 million and led preparations for a vital CQC inspection which resulted in over 20 ratings improvements in Surgical Services.

Mr Rajjayabun worked closely with community and NHS stakeholders to secure over 500,000 in funds to procure a Da Vinci Xi Robotic system. He was at the heart of the operating team that performed Worcestershire's very first robotic assisted Radical Prostatectomy in October 2022.
