About me
Mr. Philip Charlesworth is a UK Consultant Urological Surgeon. He was invited to join The Royal Marsden Hospital, London in 2023 having worked at The Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading for over 10 years.
He specialises in Prostate and Bladder Cancer. He is renowned as one of the highest volume robotic surgeons in the UK, having performed over 2000 robotic pelvic oncological operations over the past 10+ years. (Many of the highest complexity).
He is internationally renowned for improving patients' continence following pelvic cancer surgery, particularly his work pioneering the novel robotic technique of Retzius sparing robotic prostatectomy. Now with the latest SIngle Port Da Vinci robotic system.
He is a global leader in Aquablation, both benign disease and exploring its use in prostate cancer patients to try to reduce risks of incontinence and erectile dysfunction. The Cromwell Hospital now has the latest Hydros Aquablation system.
He is also internationally recognised as one of the highest volume Surgeons for robotic Cystectomy with intracorporeal ileal conduit / neobladder formation (iRARC). He has published widely on his outcomes, showing some of the lowest complication rates in the world literature.
He has been Director of the robotic fellowship programme at The Royal Berkshire since 2017, training 6 international fellows including 4 x Consultant Surgeons from Brisbane, Australia.
In Berkshire he was chair of the specialist multidisciplinary cancer team of the urology Berkshire Cancer Centre / South Thames Valley, overseeing approximately 1500 new cancers diagnoses per year.
