About me

Dr. Tremelling qualified in 1997 and trained as a gastroenterologist in the Eastern Region with specialist training and a research period at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge. He was appointed as consultant gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital in 2010. He has served as clinical director for gastroenterology and is currently clinical lead for inflammatory bowel diseases.
Dr. Tremellings particular interests are treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and interventional colonoscopy.
Dr. Tremelling has a large NHS practice of patients with both general gastroenterology problems and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Research interests

Dr. Tremelling's research aims to understand the molecular basis of inflammator bowel diseases (Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). Previous work has identified numerous genes which increase susceptibility to these conditions. Current work along with researchers at the University of East Anglia and Institute for Food Research aims to identify how these genes influence susceptibility.
Dr. Tremelling is also actively involved in clinical trials of new therapies for these conditions.

Personal interests

Dr. Tremelling has four children. He is an enthusiastic road cyclist.
